Do you offer any financial assistance?
Absolutely! Camp Colorado offers “camperships” to families who need full or partial financial aid. Camp is for everyone no matter what your financial situation. We hate to turn any camper away, especially for monetary reasons.
What is the process for receiving a “campership”?
A “campership” is acquired by first indicating on the camp application that you need financial assistance. When the application is received we will then send you a financial aid application. We must have the initial camp application in order to provide you with a financial aid application. Once the financial aid application is received the camp committee will go over the application and award funds based on the following criteria:
1. Need
2. Date of diagnosis (newly diagnosed first)
3. Never attended Camp Colorado or any other diabetes related camp
4. Members of the American Diabetes Association
5. The remaining eligible applicants will be awarded sponsorship as funds are available
Is there a due date for turning in the financial aid application?
Yes, there is. Financial aid applications must be turned into the American Diabetes Association office by May 19, 2008.
How much does Camp Colorado cost?
The cost of camp is different and is based on the specific camping program. These being:
1. Residential camp: non-member $530, member $490
2. Equestrian Camp: non-member $645, member $605
3. Teen Challenge: non-member $650, member $510
PLEASE NOTE: This amount does NOT include the $50 Non-refundable camp registration which each family is responsible for individually
Why is there a $50 registration fee and what is it used for?
The $50 camp registration fee is used to cover both the administrative cost of inputting each camper into the camp software system as well as holding or reserving a spot for camp.
If I apply for financial aid what are the chances that I will receive help?
Each request for financial aid is processed on a case by case basis. We do not have a scale that we look at to determine if a family is eligible. Our main goal is to make sure that each child has the ability to attend camp. Most families that ask for financial assistance receive at least partial camperships to help out with the cost of camp. Applicants who apply and do not receive aid are generally those who apply after the deadline has passed and the funds we have to offer are committed to other campers
If I receive only a partial campership, do I have to pay all of my portion of the camp fee at one time?
No. We do offer payment options for those families who receive partial camperships. However, final payments for camp are due 10 days prior to the first day of camp.
Are there other opportunities for financial assistance?
Within Colorado there are several ways to reach out and find other financial assistance opportunities. The best and most generous camp supporters for children are often right in the city you live in in the form of a local club or social organization. The Lions Club has been helping families send children to camp for many years and a quick call to your local chapter may be all you need to do to receive the help you need. Visit www.lionsclubs.org/EN/index.shtml and click on the Club Locator tab on the left to find a Lions Club in your area.
